Plugin Stopped Working

Exclamation Plugin Stopped Working
Hello guys!

I have been using the Featurific plugin for a while on my 2 blogs. But out of nowhere it stopped working and I can not make it work again.

I tried to delete the XML files, tried to change to change the storage location from filesystem to database, tried to change the template... but none of these has worked out.

I really don't know what else to do. Cand anyone give a clue what is going on?

I am running Wordpress 2.9.1

Hi Fernando!

Can you provide us with a link so we can check out your blogs to see what's going on? Also, when you mention that 'it stopped working', what do you mean? Did the slideshow stop updating? Or, did it stop appearing altogether? Or, was it some other problem?

Hi Rich,

When I say "it stopped working" I mean it stopped updating on one blog - http://www.melhoramiga.com.br - and stopped appearing on the other blog - http://www.techlider.com.br.

I tried to do everything on the second blog, but I ran out of options.

I appreciate any help.

Hi Fernando,

On the techlider blog:
Try changing the data.xml method from static (filesystem storage) to dynamic (database storage). I tried accessing the XML file that the gallery is currently referencing but it results in a 404 error (not found), so this might do the trick. (The 404 URL is http://www.techlider.com.br/wp-content/p...604093.xml )

On the melhoramiga blog:
How long has it been since it last updated? Do you have the slideshow set to 'most recent'? If it's on a setting such as 'most popular', it will appear to not be updating, when in fact, it is.

Hi Rich,

On Techlider: I changed the data.xml method from static to dynamic, as you said, but it seems it did not work. I had already tried to do that once, but I forgot to mention it. It tried to "reset" every setting on the plugin, by reinstalling it, but it did not work as well.

On Melhor Amiga: The blog is updated at least six times a day. The last time the slideshow seems to be updated was on Jan 5th. The most recent post shown on the slideshow is this one: http://www.melhoramiga.com.br/2010/01/ta...-original/

Hi again Fernando,

There is definitely something strange going on with your techlider blog. Did you recently install any new plugins or themes? The reason I ask is because something seems to be intercepting and redirecting requests. It's possible that it's a .htaccess file that a plugin/theme installed. I can tell that something strange is going on (most likely unrelated to Featurific) because of the following. Try accessing the following URL, which is a directory listing of the Featurific plugin:

http://www.techlider.com.br/wp-content/p...wordpress/

Ok, that works fine. Now, try clicking on 'data_xml.php', which should show the XML generated by Featurific for Wordpress. As you can see, this results in a 404 Not Found error. However, we know for a fact that the file is there, because it was just listed in the directory listing. So, my question again would be "Did you recently install any new plugins or themes?". You may try uninstalling these plugins/themes and seeing if the problem goes away.

As far as the melhor amiga blog is concerned, have you tried uninstalling (and deleting) the plugin and then re-installing the latest version? I tried accessing the data_xml.php file (at http://www.melhoramiga.com.br/wp-content...ta_xml.php ) but it doesn't yield anything useful. THis may just be because the plugin is deactivated, but I still recommend a full uninstallation and reinstallation.

Hi Rich!

I tried everything you said, but it didn't work out. On Techlider, the slideshow has appeared but it brought only old posts, even when the "Recent Posts" option was active. On Melhor Amiga it didn't show up.

I realized that even after deleting the plugin from the blogs and right after re-installing it, on both blogs, they were already set just like before deleting the plugin folder. Isn't it strange?

Regarding your "Isn't it strange?" question - that's actually a feature - your settings aren't lost when you uninstall or reinstall.

Regarding Techlider and Melhor Amiga and your continuing issues, I'm not sure what is going on. I might be able to more easily determine what is going on if I can investigate your configuration personally. Would you feel comfortable adding an admin account on both blogs for me? Once I'm done investigating the problems, you can delete the accounts and rest assured that I can no longer log in.

If you're not ok with this, I understand, but I truly am running out of ideas! Smile
