Querying pages not posts
Just wondering if it's possible to have Featurific query pages instead of posts. I'm using Wordpress as a CMS for a clients site and the content I want to feature is all in pages. Anyone done this?

Thanks,

Nick

RE: Querying pages not posts
Hi Nick!

Using pages within Featurific is currently not supported. However, I think it could be a great feature. If there's enough interest from the community for this feature, we'll consider adding it.

In the time being, you can always use a manually created data.xml file, or perhaps create a Post that has similar information as the Page. The Post could redirect to the Page, so that when the Post is featured within Featurific and a user clicks on a screen, it opens to the Post and then redirects to the target Page. Just a thought.

Please let me know if this or some other workaround works for you! Smile

Hi Rich,
I'm a "fresh" new happily user of your very beautiful and useful plugin.
Me too I need to use Featurific not for Posts, but just to inform (with short text) about a happening, a conference, etc...
I'm not an expert (but I'm learning how to)...
Please, can you help me to solve this "problem"?
How/where can I write this (short) text (even with an image...) and how can I put it in to your Wonderful Slideshow?
For my Educational Blog (http://www.scuolapereroi.it) I liked very much Skinny template...
Can you help me to enlarge it a bit, like 550x70 px?
Thank you very much for your Attention and Kindness.
Have a nice day.
Elo ;-)

RE: Querying pages not posts
Hi Elo!

Welcome to the Featurific community! I hope you find that Featurific meets your needs.

As for your first question - how to use Featurific to make announcements and the like - your best bet is to simply write a post about it. Then, you can use the "User-Defined Posts" feature within Featurific's options page to make it appear within Featurific. Remember that the text from the post is what is used to populate Featurific, so if you want the headline to read, "Conference this weekend!", then the title of the post would need to be "Conference this weekend!"

If you don't want people to actually be sent to the post when they click on it, you could actually send them to the URL of the conference. You could do this using a redirection technique as outlined here:

http://www.nineteenlabs.com/2007/11/04/h...ther-site/

As for your second question - how to resize a Featurific template - open up template.xml in the 'templates' or 'themes' directory of Featurific. You should be able to tweak exact dimensions there (e.g. modify the <size/> tag)

Good luck and let me know how it goes! Smile

RE: Querying pages not posts
Hi Rich,
thank you for your attention.
For the 2nd I did it. It's OK.
But the 1st, more important... I didn't understand... sorry.
What do you mean with

?
Yes, I can write a Post with the Conference invitation, but it will showed it too in the page of the Posts and probably, like the last post, just under your window...
So it would become near useless...
Instead I would like that the text would be ONLY in your window...
If I write a post, how can I hideit, showing it only in your window? Maybe it'll be very easy, but I don't know how... Can you help me, please?
Thank you very much...
Bye from Trieste-Italy

... jus to understand better, if you can/want, look my blog http://www.scuolapereroi.it ...
So you can see that, just for example, the 2 insert in your window are the same 2 last posts VISIBLE just under your window... I would like the these texts would be only in your window...
I hope I explained myself enaugh...
Thank you again (for the Patience...)

RE: Querying pages not posts
Hi Elo,

This plugin should help you out:

http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/adva...-excluder/

It's been reported to cause issues with Featurific, though, so please report any anomalies you encounter.

If you (or anyone who reads this post) is more inclined to write a little code to fix the problem instead of install a plugin, try this out:

Good luck! Smile

RE: Querying pages not posts
Hi Rich,
WOWWWWW!!!
It does work!!!
I'm using the plugin Excluder and it works perfectly (so I hope for the future... WP 2.7)!
It's also complete...
Instead I tried to use the Code of your second advise, but it didn't work, making problems/errors (maybe I did some mistake putting it in the Functions.php... I'm not an expert...)...
It's Wonderful!
I made also a funny "animation" with the texts... he he he... I like it very much...
Please, just another little question/courtesy (I read up about it):
if you look my Blog (http://www.scuolapereroi.it) you can see that I choose Skinny, that's very low...
can I reduce just a bit the sign "Powered By Featurific"?
It could be better for me (consider that this School is for popular pupils, so we don't have money to buy a professional version of a plugin... Undecided).
Anyway thank you very much again for your Beautiful and Useful Plugin, your Help and your Kindness.
Surely we 'll publicize you and your work.
Have a nice day and a beautiful Life.
Elo ;-)

RE: Querying pages not posts
Hi Rich
thank you again for your answer. I sent an email at the address you indicated me.
Now I have a new little problem.
Even if I din't any modification, now (not always) the first line of the Featurific Control Panel writes this:
"Warning: file_get_contents(file:///C:/DOCUME~1/Elo/IMPOST~1/Temp/moz-screenshot.jpg) [function.file-get-contents]: failed to open stream: No such file or directory in /var/www/vhosts/scuolapereroi.it/httpdocs/wp-content/plugins/featurific-for-wordpress/featurific.php on line 1830".
And sometime the same message appears also ... in the home page, above the Featurific slideshow!
I didn't understand why and I can't solve it...
Can you help me ,please?
Thank you very much for all your precious advises.
Have a nice dary.
Elo :-)

RE: Querying pages not posts
Hi Elo,

The error that you're getting is because PHP can't "find" one of your images. Are you sure that moz_screenshot.jpg is showing up in the Wordpress post? Usually, instead of saying "file:///C:/DOCUME~1/Elo...", this would say, "http://site.com/moz_screenshot.jpg", or perhaps just "moz_screenshot.jpg". So, to fix this problem, edit the post so that it correctly references the image (my guess is that the image doesn't show up in the Wordpress post right now either), and Featurific should work fine! Smile

Hope that helps!
-Rich
