RE: WordpressMU
Hi Randy,

Are you working on the system? All of your servers seem to be down. Please let me know when a good time would be to take a look.

It is 3pm, end of school day, lot's of activity. Say 1 hour? by 4pm all will be quiet.
However, this server should have nobody but me on it. So, now should be fine unless it is a network bandwidth issue. We only have a 100MB pipe. Smile

Hi Randy,

Haha! Only a 100MB pipe? How do you survive? Smile

Something strange seems to be going on, though...I can't ping nor retrieve dns records for websites.msdpt.k12.in.us... (I'm using Google's DNS servers, and also tried an offsite ping/dns utility)

RE: WordpressMU
It's always the little stuff that will get you, like incrementing the serial number on the external dns boxes...
Sorry, and thank you!

RE: WordpressMU
Randy,

I'm not sure what's going on, and I figured a video of me setting things up might help most. I hope we can get this working in time for your deadline!

Apologies if I go fast in the video - my screencasting software (iShowU) was acting very strangely, so I had several failed attempts, and became very quick at executing the commands. Smile

Please let me know what you find!

NOTE to other readers: I may remove this file after Randy has downloaded it. If you would like to see it, please email me or send me a PM (Personal Message) on this forum.

Cheers!

1) Jealous of MAC
2) Jealous of choir (I'm a UMC choir director)
3) "I see", said the blind man to the deaf mute
Video made the difference...Your install appears to be using Actual (physical) directories:
wpmu/test1
wpmu/test2
Mine uses virtual directories, not physical ones. Physical structure is:
/wp-content/blogs.dir/1/ etc.
/wp-content/blogs.dir/2/ etc.

RE: WordpressMU
Ah-HAH!

1) You should consider picking up a used Macbook - I imagine they're fairly cheap by now. I use both a Windows 7 box and my Macbook (still on Tiger) on a daily basis. My Macbook is approaching 3 or 4 years old and still handles email/web/text editing/setting up WP MU installations quite well! Smile

2) Next time you're in the area of Salt Lake City, you should listen to one of the choir's performances - a very neat experience, especially if you appreciate choirs.

3) YES! I'm so glad we finally figured this out. Can you switch over to using physical directories, or are you stuck with virtual directories?

RE: WordpressMU
Not an option in this version, according to what I am finding in the doc's.
It is a "1-click install" with OpenSUSE 11.2.
Oh well, guess I'll only be able to use it on the main site.
Thank you for all the time you put into trying to figure this one out.
It has been a pleasure meeting you.

RE: WordpressMU
Hi again, Randy!

It's strange to me that the virtual directories are preventing Featurific from working right... The reason I say this is because post selection (what is currently 'broken' on your installation) is a database-only affair. The filesystem shouldn't play a factor at all. However, I've been wrong before!

Any thoughts on anything else it could be?
Regardless, it seems we're out of time for your deadline. Great to meet you too, and good luck with the site!

RE: WordpressMU
Decision was made to go with WPMU regardless of this issue in hopes that it will eventually be solved, but if not, it will at least be on the main blog.
Other blogs may have to use "a lesser capable" slideshow.
